Durable, Sustainable Choices
All Respond! upholstered products using our standard fabrics are constructed with 100% Marquesa Lana® polyolefin yarn. We use the same fabrics on our seating products and our screens.
Durability
Fabrics manufactured with these yarns set an unsurpassed standard for performance and abrasion ratings and are almost impervious to damage. Color that goes all the way through to the fibers ensures that colors will not “wear off”. With proper maintenance, these fabrics will retain their look for years with no fear of tears, yarn breaks, pilling or snagging under normal use. It combines sustainability with durability.

You can also specify fabrics you purchase (COM) with no upcharge. They must be sent to August Berres Fulfillment Center, 1525 Gezon Parkway SW, Grand Rapids MI 49509, and clearly marked with your name and purchase order plus any other identifying information and contact information. If the fabric design is directional, clear instructions must be provided. August Berres does not warrant the performance or durability of fabrics you purchase.
Sustainability
Respond! Polyolefin fabrics are environmentally friendly products that reduce the carbon footprint by utilizing waste products from gasoline manufacturing. Its mode of manufacture produces no waste product.
Its built-in resistance to staining and wear eliminates the need for after-market stain-resistant finishes. It is recyclable and unique in that it utilizes conservation methods from its creation to its disposal.
Our standard fabrics are non-directional, durable, and bleach cleanable.. Grey Mix is shown in the image.
Cleaning
Solution-Dyed Yarn
Marquesa Lana® fabrics are made with a 100% solution-dyed yarn which is impervious to 100% bleach and should have no impact from the disinfectants that are recommended for Covid-19 (see list below).
However, the CDC recommends household bleach (that includes 5.25% or 6.00%–6.15% sodium hypochlorite depending on the manufacturer) diluted in water at a 1:10 dilution ratio which is 1.5 cups of bleach in a gallon of water to disinfect porous surfaces.
The use of bleach will have no harmful impact and the recommended treatments will not void our warranty, but we always recommend that the fabric to be cleaned and disinfected should be tested in an inconspicuous area first.
Considerations regarding using bleach as a disinfectant
Chlorine solutions should be prepared fresh daily, as they are light sensitive. They have an expiration date and can lose efficacy quickly if not stored properly. Bleach expires one year from production.
Most chlorine products require the removal of organic soil prior to their use (removing bulk spill matter, cleaning prior to disinfecting).
Disinfection requires a wet contact time (amount of time the disinfectant is required to be left on the surface to be effective). Ten minutes is recommended but please follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Chlorine solutions are corrosive and can pit metal and damage skin.
NEVER mix bleach with any product containing ammonia or acids.
Approved disinfectants to use against SARS-CoV-2
The following cleaning recommendation is supplied without warranty. August Berres neither guarantees nor will be responsible for specific results as testing of these products was conducted under laboratory conditions and results may vary under actual conditions. Any misuse of cleaning agents may void our warranty.
Because SARS-CoV-2 is a new virus, it is not readily available for use in commercial laboratory testing to determine if a certain disinfectant product is effective at killing the virus. However, the following list of surface disinfectants has shown effectiveness against another type of human coronavirus like SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19
